A Very Busy Week...

This week began awfully. Fischer and I had a very stressful Monday at daycare. Our state inspector came for her annual visit--which makes all of us nervous, because no matter how careful we are or how hard we work, she always finds SOMETHING that we could be doing differently. She admits they're minor compared to many daycares (like not having an extra pair of snowpants for a child who forgot his), but it still puts us all on edge and costs our center money. Anyhow, I had to accompany her around the building on her inspection, and when we got to the baby room, Fischer was just beside himself. He wasn't eating and couldn't be calmed down! I was already stressed, but then the inspector says, "Is that one yours? Awww. If he were mine, I'd take him." So I grabbed him and tried to calm him down. I continued talking with the inspector while he screamed away. Finally, we went into the office so Holly could take over with the inspector and I could try and nurse Fischer. He wasn't having it, so that just made me upset, too. I fell apart--crying in front of the inspector and everyone. I called Fischer's doctor, and they couldn't get him in until Wednesday! So I apologized to Holly and left work to take him to Urgent Care ($75 co-pay!). It turns out he's got bronchitis. So she started him on Amoxicillin.

He had fussy mornings at daycare on Tuesday and Wednesday, and his appetite wasn't the greatest. I determined that it was probably the medicine hurting his tummy, because he'd been having diarrhea, too. So, on Wednesday after coffee with Kristy and Flora, Joe and I fed Fischer rice cereal for the first time. We made a video of it for you to see. All of Fischer's videos are under "Fisch Finder" on the left side of the blog page.

It has really helped to give him his med after he eats. He didn't do too badly with the cereal, and it was so much fun seeing all of his facial expressions! I gave him a little spoon to play with--which kept his hands out of my way, but he did gag himself with it a couple times even though I kept positioning it lower and lower in his hand. The rest of the week, I gave him a little cereal both morning and night before giving him his med. I think that has made the difference. His eyes have cleared up for the first time since he was 2 weeks old! I hope that lasts after the medication is gone.

Other than our rough start to the week, we haven't had too much to report. Today, Daddy is up north at Grandpa Ken's helping him make firewood for this winter. Fischer and I took a walk to enjoy what they say will be the last weekend this warm before April. It sure is beautiful! He fell asleep on our way back. It felt good to be outside without having to layer up.

The photo below shows Fischer being fed by Ms. Leigh at daycare Thursday--much better than Monday!
